Hva er Yoga Nidra Meditasjon? (Silvias versjon er dessverre foreløpig kun på engelsk, håper det går fint)
Yoga Nidra is one of the deepest of all meditations and it brings an incredible calmness, quietness and clarity. It is a deep and complete relaxation technique. Yoga Nidra means yogic sleep because through meditation you remain in a state between wakefullness and sleeping. Yoga Nidra has been known for thousands of years. Actually, it is a conscious practice of relaxation that is intended to stimulate physical, mental and emotional well-being.
The practice of yoga nidra is divided into few stages:
Preparation and relaxation - Yoga nidra is performed in the posture of shavasana by lying down on your back with your arms and legs slightly distant from your body and the closed eyes. We start to relax our body and mind and awake awarenes of stillness and comfort. We focus the mind on the outside sounds than coming back inside the building, the room where we are. If all the sensory imprints are removed at once the mind becomes restless. So because of it it`s directed on listening to the sounds, and move slowly from sound to sound with the view of witness. After a while, the mind becomes indifferent and automatically calms down.
Sankalpa - When the body and mind are relaxed we create our Sankalpa, , positive thought, word, simple sentence, positive affirmation of simple content in present moment as it is already happening. We repeat our Sankalpa 3 times mentally, consciously with feeling and faith.
Rotation of consciousness – going through various parts of the body is not a practice of concentration and does not involve physical movements. It is necessary to remain conscious, to listen to the voice of your teacher and to move the mind very quickly according to the given instructions. When the teacher says the thumb of the right hand, repeat it mentally, think of the thumb of the right hand but dont move it and then go on.. You do not need to remember what comes next. The whole process take action in the unconscious mind.
Breath awareness – we simply becomes aware of the natural breath without making an attempt to change the flow of the breath.
Opposite feelings and sensations - by awakening various feelings and sensations during yoga nidra, you remember real experiences. When we awaken feelings of heaviness and lightness, of the heat and coldness, of the stress and peace, of the pain and pleasure, etc., we stimulate centers in the brain that maintain harmony between our interior and the outside world. Most of situations that people experiences in their life are buried in their past. What remains in the mind or in the brain is only memory, not real experience, but it can be experienced again in yoga nidra. The participant slowly comes out of the suffering area that is a consequence of binding for dual life experiences. This gives a relaxed and conscious testimony of conflicting and oppressive emotional reactions. Over time, such an inner attitude is transferred to everyday life situations and we become more mature individuals. The result of the exercise is developing the control of emotional reactions and it sharpness the perception.
Visualization – visualization in Yoga Nidra is important for opening the content of the unconscious mind, which is normally expressed only in dreams. The images used are of universal significance and cause strong associations. Visible representation develops self-awareness, relaxes the mind and leads it to concentration.
Repeat Sankalpa – you repeat the same Sankalpa that you had at the beginning 3 times mentally with the same feeling and faith. The faith enhances the effect of the decision of the unconscious mind and it really becomes a reality in our life.
Return / Ending - we become again aware of the external sounds, objects and persons and slowly we start to move the body parts, stretch the body and when we are ready we open our eyes.
One hour of this meditation replaces 4 hours of sleep. Yoga Nidra can be practiced by everyone from children to the elderly. It can not be done nothing wrong and it doesnt have bad side effects.
